Letter: Shift in advertising contributed to drug epidemic

To the editor:

Does it bother anyone else that most of the advertising on TV now is not for cars or clothes or restaurants, but for medicines/drugs?

Most of these nostrums are for conditions which, thankfully, the average citizen will never encounter. We are encouraged to “ask your doctor about…”

Could this be one of the root causes of the “drug culture” and the consumption of illegal drugs and the “opioid epidemic?”

Have we entered (Aldous) Huxley’s “Brave New World,” where a “gram (or pill, toke or hit), is better than a damn?
