Letter: City council candidate promises to educate, empower residents

To the editor:

Greenwood is closing in on the 2019 primary election where we will select candidates based on who we feel best represents our views and our values. As one of the candidates seeking your vote I wanted to take a moment and share why I feel the need for a change and why I believe I would be a good candidate for the city.

My name is Randy Goodin and I am an active citizen in Greenwood who is seeking to be elected to the Common Council AT-Large seat. I am a 16-plus year resident of Greenwood. In my time here I have seen tremendous growth in our city and have watched as neighbors struggle to understand the direction we are moving and how they could have a voice.

Just over four years ago I co-founded a Facebook page and group called the Concerned Citizens of Southeast Greenwood to better inform my neighbors of what businesses and developments were coming before they city for approval. Our mission is simple, inform our neighbors about upcoming projects, educate our neighbors on the process and other items as we learn and thereby empower our neighbors to help drive the change in Greenwood and shape the city in a way that is appealing to the citizens and businesses alike.

I collect information by reviewing the agendas and attending nearly every Advisory Plan Commission and Common Council meeting as well as many Board Of Public Works meetings. Over the past four years I have missed just a handful of these meetings and tried to ensure I had an alternate when I was unable to attend. I also serve as a member of the Economic Development Commission for the city of Greenwood.

I would like to continue this work as a member of the Common Council in Greenwood. I believe the entire population needs better communication from the elected officials and that I can help to build these communications. I am also a Cold War era veteran and I am a concerned citizen seeking to help my neighbors by informing, educating and empowering them to help drive change in Our city. You are welcome to reach out to me via the following and I would appreciate your vote on May 7th .

Randy Goodin

Greenwood
