All-County team: Girls golf

For all of her considerable talents on the golf course, consistency had been a bit of an issue for Liv Parramore before this season.

Ryan Bishop, the head pro up at Southern Dunes and the high school golf coach at Crown Point, helped the Franklin junior find a solution to that problem.

"We began with her grip and worked our way through the bag," Bishop said of his work with Parramore, which began during the summer. "We fixed her putting stroke from a push or cut putt to one that allows the putter to release. We worked on her take away being all one piece, we worked on her playing smarter to try and eliminate big numbers."

The result was a steady run of success that culminated in a trip to the state finals — and with Parramore earning the Daily Journal’s Player of the Year honors.

By season’s end, Parramore was a model of consistency for the Grizzly Cubs, particularly in the big tournaments. She was the medalist at the Mid-State Conference tourney with a 79, matched that score at the sectional and posted a 77 at the regional to earn an individual bid to state, where she finished in a tie for 42nd.

Parramore said that while the process of working with Bishop was difficult, she could see the end result taking shape from the beginning.

"When he first changed it, I could not hit the ball, but it was going the same place every time," she recalled. "So when I eventually altered other things — I started turning my hips more, and my shoulders — it started going consistently down the middle, which I never had before."

The only down side to her wildly successful season was that she didn’t have her Franklin teammates with her for that final tournament at Prairie View. The Grizzly Cubs, ranked in the state’s top 10 for much of the season, finished fourth as a team in a loaded regional field at Smock, where they were beaten by three top-five teams.

Seeing the rest of the competition at state only made Parramore that much more certain that her team belonged there too.

With the top four players in the lineup all returning, they’ve got another chance to make it happen.

"State is just a really fun place to be," Parramore said. "Because I think we could have competed well there as a team, I’m just going to try to keep telling them it’s not far. Next year we should go.

"We just want to represent Franklin."
