Swanson earns record-breaking win

Kody Swanson extended his USAC Silver Crown record with a 30th career victory on Saturday, winning the Joe James-Pat O’Connor Memorial at Salem Speedway.

It was Swanson’s fifth consecutive win in that event, also a record.

Swanson, driving for the Whiteland-based Nolen Racing team, grabbed the lead from Bobby Santos III on lap 50 of the 75-lap race and held on the rest of the way.

"This is the first pavement Silver Crown race since we lost (team founder Gene Nolen)," Swanson told Flo Racing, "so it is important to all of us. Every win is important; you just don’t know when you’ll get another opportunity, and you have to cherish each one."
