Trojan boys, Grizzly Cub girls win

Center Grove’s boys turned in a dominating performance at the Franklin Invitational on Saturday, easily outpacing the rest of the 17-team field. On the girls side, the host Grizzly Cubs edged the Trojans at the top of the 15-team standings.

Raef Sauer (16:37) and Griffin Hennessy (16:46.84) were second and fourth overall to lead Center Grove, with Aidan Galt and Parker Mimbela seventh and eighth, respectively.

Freshman Lauren Klem (19:08.62) placed second individually for Franklin’s girls, with Lillian Lacy sixth and Jenna Newton ninth. Two other freshmen, Indian Creek’s Phoebe Dowty (seventh) and Center Grove’s Lara Phipps (eighth), had top-10 finishes.

Trojans fourth at Hall of Fame

With most of the state’s top teams on hand, No. 5 Center Grove finished fourth in the Hall of Fame Classic at Trophy Club on Saturday. The Trojans finished with a team total of 327, trailing only Evansville North, Carmel and Westfield in the 21-team field.

Meg Fosnot led Center Grove with a 78. She was followed by Abby Rich (80), Camille Short (83) and Sage Parsetich (86). Franklin finished eighth with a total of 349, led by Liv Parramore (82), Ava Ray (82) and Ellie Beavins (84).

Emenhiser earns all-WIC honors

Indian Creek’s Hannah Emenhiser shot an 89 to place third as an individual at the Western Indiana Conference championships on Saturday, earning all-league honors. Annie Stephens added a 98 for the Braves.

Boys soccer

Atkison, Franklin thump Madison

Griffin Atkison scored four goals to help lead Franklin to a 6-0 victory over Madison on Saturday. Nick Woods and Nathan Cambridge also found the net for the Grizzly Cubs (4-1).

Girls soccer

Woodmen defeat Cardinals

Shelby Hanson scored twice and Emily Metzger contributed a goal and an assist as Greenwood topped Southport, 3-1, on Saturday. Kiley Hankenhoff made 11 saves for the Woodmen (3-1).

Volleyball

Lancers earn three-set win

Edinburgh took one of its three matches at the Brown County Invitational on Saturday. The Lancers (3-8) edged Owen Valley in three sets, 18-25, 25-22, 16-14, but lost to Indian Creek and the host Eagles, both in two sets.

Warriors pick up one win

Whiteland capped its Saturday at the Ben Davis Invitational with a 25-15, 25-16 victory over Warren Central. The Warriors had previously taken losses against Terre Haute North, Southport and the host Giants.

Boys tennis

Woodmen sweep, Franklin splits

Greenwood earned a pair of victories on Saturday, topping Franklin by a 4-1 margin and completing a 5-0 sweep of Decatur Central. The Woodmen (6-2) got unbeaten days from Ethan Gray, Nick Belovic and Charlie Brooks in singles and from the No. 2 doubles team of Sam Fenner and Noah Paswater.

The Grizzly Cubs earned a split on the day by beating the Hawks, 4-1. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Sam Auger and Jackson Klem earned two victories.

Trojans drop two in tourney

No. 3 Center Grove played in a tournament at Jasper on Saturday and dropped a pair of matches to ranked teams, falling to the No. 5 Wildcats, 4-1, and No. 13 Castle, 3-2. Luke Embrey won both of his matches at first singles, while the second doubles team of Glen Swaney and Carson Contos picked up a point against Castle.

Braves salvage split

Indian Creek defeated West Vigo, 3-2, on Saturday and took a 4-1 loss against Northview. Aiden Pemberton had a pair of straight-set wins at No. 3 singles for the Braves (4-1, 2-1 WIC), improving to a perfect 7-0 on the season.
