Former Center Grove golfer picks up conference honor

Sam Jean, a junior at the University of Cincinnati, was named the American Athletic Conference men’s golfer of the month for September. The former Center Grove player became the first Bearcats player to earn the honor after capturing medalist honors at the Badger Invitational and starting the season by tying for fifth at the Hoosier Collegiate Invite.

Sophomore Caleb Tidd tied for 19th for Coker University at the Camden Collegiate, carding scores of 66, 72 and 76.

Grace College junior Lucy Young tied for seventh at the Bethel Invitational with a two-round score of 166.

Duke junior Erica Shepherd tied for 34th at the Windy City Collegiate Classic with scores of 74, 81 and 73. Shepherd was also named Atlantic Coast Conference co-women’s golfer of the month after previously taking fourth at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.

IU Southeast volleyball player Santina Schembra finished with 13 digs and an assist as the team scored a five-set decision over IU East.

Texas A&M libero Macy Carrabine had 23 digs and seven assists for the Aggies in their five-set victory at Tennessee. She chipped in nine digs and an assist in a three-set loss to the Volunteers a day earlier.

Indiana State lost at Missouri Valley Conference foes Valparaiso and Loyola with Ashley Eck totaling 19 digs, five service aces and two assists.

Kansas State safety Russ Yeast led the Wildcats in tackles with eight in a 37-31 home loss to Oklahoma.

DePauw running back Lucas Hoffman carried six times for 18 yards in a 57-7 rout of visiting Hiram.

Rose-Hulman senior Alonzo Johnson had nine carries for 39 yards and a score as the Engineers won at Defiance, 63-14.

Marian linebacker Bailey Bennett recorded five tackles in the Knights’ 51-7 victory at Taylor. Picking up seven tackles, including a quarterback sack, for the Trojans was defensive back Tyler Watson.

Carson Steele helped Ball State defeat visiting Army, 28-16, with his eight carries for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Whiteland

Marian midfielder Madison Hill scored two goals as the Knights’ women’s soccer team won at Bethel, 7-3.

Franklin College golfer Zach Ricketts helped lead the Grizzlies to the championship at the HCAC Preview, finishing seventh individually with a score of 76-74—150.

Sarah Scott finished with five kills in Taylor’s volleyball loss at Thomas More, then added seven kills and a dig in the Trojans’ victory at Georgetown College.

Greenwood

Indiana Wesleyan tennis player Ethan Gray comprised half of the doubles tandem that won the B draw championship at the ITA regional.

Wabash College senior Ethan Pine posted a season-best time of 27 minutes, 4.1 seconds to place 142nd at the Louisville cross country Classic. University of Indianapolis senior Brandon Albin ran a 30:13.4 for 367th overall, while Franklin College freshman Noah McCracken was timed at 32:23.6. In the women’s race, Mallory Watson ran a 27:45.2.

Kentucky Christian’s Anna Cruser had three digs and two assists in a loss at Truett-McConnell, and two digs and two assists in a loss at Brenau.

Marian football scored a 51-7 triumph at Taylor, with Drew Byerly hauling in two passes for 37 yards and his second touchdown in as many weeks.

For a second consecutive week, Ball State linebacker Clayton Coll reached double digits in tackles, compiling 12 (including two for loss) and forcing a fumble in a 28-16 win over Army.

Hanover women’s golfer Taylor Drake tied for eighth at the Wooster Fall Intercollegiate with a two-round total of 169.

Ellie Beavins placed third with a score of 161 as the Taylor women’s golf squad won the Harbor Shores Intercollegiate. The Trojan men finished fourth, with junior Javan Johnson carding a 143 for runner-up status.

Savannah College of Art and Design freshman golfer Liv Parramore tied for eighth with an 80 in a loss to USCB.

Butler freshman Damon Dickey shot 146 to tie for fourth at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational.

Concordia (Wisconsin) men’s tennis player Logan Snyder won his singles and doubles matches at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.

IUPUI setter Brooke Phillips totaled 76 assists, 19 digs and four service aces for the Jaguars as they lost matches at Robert Morris and Youngstown State.

UIndy senior Emma Treibic finished 116th in a time of 20 minutes, 1.1 seconds, at the Louisville cross country classic. The men’s race included Franklin College runners Eli Cochrane (29:16.8) and Drew Hargis (30:15.7).

Junior linebacker Isaiah Lacey had two tackles for St. Francis in a 27-17 loss to Siena Heights.

UIndy cross country took part in the Louisville Classic, with junior Shae Biddle taking 180th overall in a time of 20:38.9.

Greenwood Christian

Huntington volleyball player Mayah Schundelmier had three kills and an ace in a win at Aquinas College, and three kills and seven digs in a loss at Rochester (Michigan).

Goalkeeper Gabe Vessely made five saves for St. Francis in a 3-0 loss to Goshen.

Roncalli

Ball State defensive lineman John Harris, a Greenwood resident, picked up four tackles in the team’s 28-16 downing of Army.
