Luana Jo ‘Luey’ Myers

INDIANAPOLIS

Luana Jo “Luey” (Teel) Myers 72 of Indianapolis, IN lost her 3 month long valiant battle with cancer at 7:00 A.M. on Tuesday November 16, 2021 and received her reward with Jesus in Heaven. Praise God!! She was born in Warsaw, IN to Wilvin and Lucille (Stutzman) Teel on May 21, 1949 and grew up on a small grain farm between Akron and Mentone, IN. She grew up with three brothers and quickly learned that she had to compete and keep up. Did she ever compete and keep up!!

She graduated from Akron High School in 1967. She played varsity basketball and ran varsity track all four years. She went to state track competing in the 100 yard dash (back then) in 1967 finishing 5th. She was the Indiana state women’s badminton champion in 1967. She loved music and played clarinet and sang in the choir. Her vocal group, The Blue Crystals, took 1st place at state.

Upon graduation from AHS, she attended Ball State University graduating in 1971 with a degree in teaching. She played basketball and badminton her freshman year but decided to just focus on her studies after that. At BSU she met the love of her life, Ted. They began singing together and continued doing that for the next 52 years. She and Ted both played softball and in 1969 both of their teams were the campus champions… she always thought that was cool!!! They were married on August 15, 1971 in Indianapolis, IN and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary the past August 15th, 2021. It truly was a match made in heaven. She taught physical education and math for two years at Eastbrook Middle School in Upland, IN and then started a family. She was a stay-at-home mom for 24 years. All she ever really wanted to do was be a mom, and she was the best at it! For the next few years she worked in administrative positions and then retired with Ted in September of 2016.

Her faith was the foundation of her life and she lived it every day. She was kind, caring and never had a bad thing to say about anyone ever… she always looked for the good in people and always found it. She always put herself last and lived to take care of her family, friends and anyone in need. And oh my, what a sense of humor! She was always, “going for the laugh” as she thought laughter was the best medicine.

Along with her faith, her family meant the world to her. She loved watching her sons Zach and Derek participate in sports, music and theater. Later on, that continued with her four grandchildren.

She loved tennis, pickle ball, music and was learning to play golf. On the pickle ball court, she was a competitor! She loved all the friendships as well as the competition. She and Ted played music together for over 52 years. They decided to put out music videos on YouTube during the COVID pandemic. They called themselves, “How’s My Driving”. She had so much fun with that.

At home, she enjoyed her flowers and hummingbirds. She also enjoyed her friends and all the activities and travel with them. She loved her friends so much. She so appreciated all the love, prayers, food and support during her battle.

She is survived by her husband Ted M. Myers of Indianapolis, IN, sons Zach Myers (daughter in law Heather) of Greenwood, IN and Derek Myers (daughter in law Cheryl) of Roanoke, VA, four grandchildren Hannah Myers and Caleb Myers parents Derek and Cheryl and Thomas Myers and Kate Myers parents Zach and Heather and her brother Jim Teel and sister in law Sharon of Rock Island, IL.

She was preceded in Heaven by her parents Wilvin and Lucille (Stutzman) Teel, two brothers Bill Whetstone and his wife Susie and Denny Teel.
