Girls basketball

Trojans drop conference clash

Center Grove lost at Class 4A No. 7 North Central on Thursday, 48-38. Emily Karr had 10 points for the Trojans (10-8, 2-3 MIC), while Audrey Annee finished with nine, Aubrie Booker had seven and Savanna Bischoff six.

Warriors fall to Cardinals

Whiteland came up just short at Southport, taking a 55-51 loss. The Warriors (6-12) were led by 10 points each from Braylyn Clendenen and Kylee Marlin.

Swimming and diving

Center Grove sweeps Flashes

Center Grove went on the road and swept Franklin Central on Wednesday, taking the girls meet 129-57 and the boys 99-70. The Trojan boys got two wins apiece from Vincent Howe (200 and 500 freestyle), Garrett Crist (200 IM, 100 backstroke) and Ben Clarkston (50 and 100 free), while the girls got first-place efforts from Lara Phipps (200 free, 100 butterfly), Grace Clarkston (50 free, 100 back), Kayla Fischer (200 IM) and Mia Prusiecki (diving). The Trojans also won every relay on the evening.

Woodmen dominate Hornets

Greenwood easily defeated Beech Grove, with the girls taking a 121-53 victory and the boys winning 116-29. Madison Peckinpaugh (100 and 200 freestyle), and Charli Graves (50 free, 100 backstroke) were double winners for the girls, who also got first-place finishes from Reagan Graves (200 IM), Madison Ramsey (diving), Leann Graves (100 butterfly), Maddie Johnson (500 free) and Hailey Peckinpaugh (100 breaststroke). The boys got two wins from Ben Wehnert (500 free, 100 breast) and one apiece from Andrew Mears (50 free), Joe Sheets (200 free), Conner Peckinpaugh (200 IM), Ethan Rose (100 fly), Jackson Simms (100 free) and Caleb Young (100 back).

Warriors announce coaching hires

Whiteland introduced three new varsity head coaches on Thursday, with Adam Webb and Katie DeClerq taking over the boys and girls golf teams and Scotty Kern becoming the new boys cross country coach. DeClerq, a Center Grove graduate, had previously coached the Warrior girls from 2003 to 2010. She and Webb step in for the retiring John Morin. Kern, who replaces Gerry Emerson, previously coached varsity track and cross country at Waldron.
