Warriors edge Woodmen

Jonathan Moreno pitched a complete game, scattering five hits and striking out eight without a walk, to help Whiteland edge Greenwood 3-2 on Thursday. The Warriors (5-0, 2-0 Mid-State) prevailed despite collecting just three hits. Josh Miller doubled twice and drove in a run for the Woodmen (1-2, 0-2).

Royals beaten by Irish

Roncalli suffered a 14-3 setback against Cathedral. Joey Milto was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Royals (4-2).

Softball

Warriors rout Flashes

Haley Wilkerson homered and drove in three runs as Whiteland rolled to an 11-2 home win over Franklin Central on Thursday. Tara Watson and Josslynn Harbert added two RBIs apiece for the Warriors (4-0), while winning pitcher Debbie Hill fanned seven without issuing a walk.

Grizzly Cubs fall short

Franklin pounded out 14 hits, including three from freshman Adeline Blackwell, but couldn’t keep pace with Plainfield in a 16-8 loss.

Roncalli outslugs Pendleton

Courtney Keller hit two home runs in Roncalli’s 10-6 win over Pendleton Heights. Ally Walesky and winning pitcher Keagan Rothrock also homered for the Royals (1-0), who began the season ranked first in the nation by MaxPreps.

Boys golf

Franklin tops Whiteland

Luke Bechert earned medalist honors with a 40 as Franklin picked up a 173-191 victory over Whiteland at The Legends on Thursday. Will McGuinness shot a 43 and Jake Lock a 44 in the win; Will Davis led the Warriors with a 44.

The Grizzly Cubs lost to Greenwood Christian on Wednesday evening, 163-169. Will McGuinness led Franklin in defeat with a 39.

Track and field

Woodmen drop dual meet

Greenwood lost both halves of a dual meet against Franklin Central, with the girls falling by a 81-52 score and the boys taking an 86-28 defeat. The Woodmen girls got event wins from Ellie Irwin (200 and high jump), Emma Gardner (shot put), Amy Luttrell (100), Makena Cruse (800) and the 4×400 and 4×800 relays. For the boys, Dylan Mayhew won the shot, CJ Price took the long jump and Will Riley was first in the 100.

Edinburgh boys place second

Competing in a five-way meet on Wednesday, Edinburgh finished with 74 points to place a solid second behind host Indianapolis Lutheran. Jackson Hartwell won the 110 hurdles for the Lancers.

Boys volleyball

Royals sweep Trojans

Brendan Louthain collected 12 kills in Roncalli’s 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 sweep of Bishop Chatard on Thursday. The top-ranked Royals improve to 15-0 with the win.
