Katie Leigh Rust

GREENWOOD

Katie Leigh Rust, 28, passed away peacefully in her home with family at her side Thursday, April 7, 2022. She was a resident of Greenwood.

She was born May 3, 1993 in West Palm Beach, Florida to Mark and Jodi (Lasley) Fink. She married Chris Rust on August 13, 2016 in Noblesville, IN. Katie is survived by her husband Chris Rust, daughter Everly, and son Leo. Survivors also include her parents Mark and Jodi Fink of Greenwood; two brothers, Logan (Jessica) Fink of Indianapolis and Landon (Taylor) Fink of Greenwood; maternal grandparents Steve and Sharon Lasley of Oneonta, AL; and paternal grandmother, Wilda Fink of West Palm Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Vernon Fink.

Katie was a 2011 graduate of Greenwood Community High School. She graduated from IUPUI as an event planner, and later returned to Ball State to pursue her dream of a degree in Education. She was a Language Arts/Social Studies teacher at Perry Meridian Sixth Grade Academy.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, and daughter whose love was unconditional. Katie loved being a mom, camping and traveling with her family, chips and salsa, going to the beach, planning events and helping with weddings, shopping, and date nights with her husband. She also adored her students and strived to make a positive impact in their lives.

Katie was a courageous fighter against colon cancer. While she underwent multiple treatments, she never let that dull her beautiful smile and infectious laugh. Katie’s life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the impact she left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that she stayed here.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-5PM, Friday, April 15, at The Barn at Bay Horse Inn, 1468 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to any Fifth Third Bank for the Benefit of Katie Rust or to a Go Fund Me page in memory of Katie at https://gofund.me/52029d25.
