Softball

Lancers outslug Yellow Jackets

MacKenzie Bieker homered twice and drove in four runs in Edinburgh’s 18-11 victory over Morristown on Thursday. Kyah Streeval was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBIs for the Lancers (7-7, 3-4 Mid-Hoosier).

Royals shut out Artesians

Keagan Rothrock struck out 13, including the 500th of her career, as Class 4A No. 1 Roncalli earned a 10-0 win over Martinsville. Abbey Hofmann had a home run and four RBIs for the Royals (13-0), while Carley Keller had four hits and drove in three runs.

Baseball

Edinburgh falls in extras

Morristown picked up an eighth-inning run to nip Edinburgh, 4-3, on Thursday. Riley Palmeter had two hits for the Lancers (2-10, 0-7 Mid-Hoosier), while Travis Jones drove in a run.

Woodmen drop nail-biter

Greenwood came up one run short in a 2-1 setback at Perry Meridian on Wednesday. Dom Wright drove in the lone run for the Woodmen (3-6, 1-6 Mid-State).

Girls tennis

Warriors clip Hawks

Whiteland shut out Decatur Central on Thursday, 5-0. Sara Ullrich, Candace Stephenson and Ella Proctor all won singles points in straight sets, while the doubles teams of Paige Lester and Kailyn Sheridan (No. 1) and Cathy Nguyen and Kinsey Shipp (No. 2) both picked up 6-0, 6-1 wins.

Roncalli blanks Ritter

Roncalli dropped just two games in a 5-0 rout of Cardinal Ritter. Rebecca Zakrowski, Bridget Hehmann and Thalia Guzman won the three singles matches for the Royals, Morgan Vaught and Clara Ralston cruised at first doubles and Sophia Saran and Emily Smith got the victory at second doubles.

Boys golf

Cougars top Edinburgh

Ian Reed led all players with a 35 as Greenwood Christian defeated Edinburgh, 155-193, on Thursday. Max Blandford and Trevor Moon paced the Lancers with rounds of 42 and 43, respectively.

Track and field

Woodmen boys, girls take second

Greenwood’s boys and girls both lost to Plainfield but defeated Martinsville on Thursday. For the Woodmen girls, Emma Gardner took both the discus and shot put, Ellie Irwin won the high jump and the 4×800 relay also placed first. The boys got first-place efforts from Jordan Bonser (400), Samuel Grimes (1,600), Conner Watson (3,200), Dylan Mayhew (shot put), Brayden Gardner (discus) and the 4×800 relay team.

Lancers second in tri-meet

Edinburgh’s boys finished second behind Morristown on Wednesday in a home meet that also included Waldron. Braylon Bryant won the 2oo-meter dash and Jackson Hartwell the 110 hurdles for the Lancers, and those two joined Enrique Callejas and Blaze Jensen on the victorious 4×100 relay. Jensen also tied for first in the high jump.

Swimming

Smith named Trojans’ new coach

Brad Smith, the longtime former Indian Creek coach who took over last summer as the aquatic director at Center Grove, was officially approved as the Trojans’ new head coach by the school board. Smith takes the reins from Jim Todd, who had coached the boys and girls teams for 38 years.
