Malcolm Herman Roller

SHELBYVILLE, IN FORMERLY OF NINEVEH, IN.

Malcolm Herman Roller (Mac), 97 of Shelbyville, IN and former resident of Nineveh, IN went to be with his Lord on Monday June 13, 2022.

Mac was born October 30, 1924, in Newport, Kentucky to Joseph Virgil Roller and Effie Pearl (Dowell) Roller. He married Myra Jeane Camden on January 11, 1947, in Columbus, IN. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2010.

While Mac was still enrolled in Boggstown High School, he was drafted into the United States Navy. He retired a World War II veteran and served on the Landing Craft Tank (LCT) 830.

Mac retired after thirty-five years from General Motors where he worked as a utility inspector at the General Motors Truck and Bus division in Indianapolis.

He had been currently residing at Walker Place and was an actively attending member of Hopes Point Church in Shelbyville, IN. Mac enjoyed socializing with friends and family and could oftentimes be over heard reciting (from memory) poetry, songs, quips, and Bible verses. He enjoyed outings whereby taking in a fish sandwich or coney dog might have been the day’s real highlight for him. He spent many years being an avid gardener. Other activities Mac was known to enjoy are “clean-reading” books and taking walks out of doors to enjoy the music of nature around him.

His community contributions include being a member of Nineveh Masonic Lodge #317 and the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite. He had also served as township trustee of Nineveh Township, Johnson County, Hamblen Township, Brown County and Johnson County Welfare Board.

Survivors include two sons David W. Roller (Kathryn) of Shelbyville, IN and Randall L. Roller (Kathryn) of Greenfield, IN, three daughters Joyce A. Welsh (Doug) of Indianapolis, IN, Robin S. Roller of Francisco, IN and Lisa G. Everett of Francisco, IN, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents (Joseph Virgil Roller and Effie Pearl Dowell), his wife (Myra Jeanne Camden), two brothers (Edward Roller and Leland Roller), three sisters (Thelma Schanberger, Ruth Carson and Frances Billings), granddaughter (Alison), and great-great granddaughter (Tabbitha).

Pastor Greg Albert and Pastor Edward (Eddie) Roller will conduct a service on Saturday June 25, 2022, at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Friends may call Saturday June 25, 2022 from 12 pm to 1:30pm with service immediately following visitation time at the mortuary. Burial with military honors United States Navy Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard will follow at Nineveh Cemetery.
