Girls golf

Lancers win league title

Izzy Richardson’s 81 topped all scorers and helped Edinburgh comfortably defend its Mid-Hoosier Conference championship on Saturday. The Lancers finished with a total of 413, good enough to beat runner-up Southwestern by 68 strokes. Macie Blandford added a 105 for Edinburgh, followed by Jill Turner with a 109.

Trojans claim Bloomington tourney

No. 3 Center Grove coasted to a 24-shot victory in the Bloomington North Invitational, posting a total of 310 on the par-71 layout to outdistance runner-up Columbus North. Camille Short and Sage Parsetich each carded a 76 for the Trojans, while Lexi Stuart was one back at 77 and Abby Rich had an 81.

Grizzly Cubs win at Smock

Seventh-ranked Franklin finished first in the Franklin Central Invitational at Smock, totaling 322 to beat Center Grove’s White team by five. Lexi Ray was the individual medalist with a 72 after shooting a 4-under 32 on the back nine, while Reese Phillips added a 78 for the Grizzly Cubs. The Trojans were led by Ellie Adkisson (77) and Maren Pfeifle (78). Roncalli was 11th, paced by an 85 from Elsie Kerr.

Braves secure WIC championship

Indian Creek clinched its second straight Western Indiana Conference championship with a 4-1 win at Sullivan on Saturday. Brendan Conner and Grant Dalton were victorious in the second and third singles spots for the Braves (13-0, 7-0), while Aiden Pemberton and Landon Sichting won at No. 1 doubles and Trent Volz and Aaron Spurgeon did the same in the No. 2 position.

Woodmen take tourney title

Greenwood won all three of its matches at the Lebanon Invitational to claim the tournament championship. Noah Paswater was a perfect 3-0 at first singles for the Woodmen (12-6), while Carter Chatham and Aidyn Green earned three points apiece while moving around in the lineup.

Warriors sweep in Terre Haute

No. 26 Whiteland beat New Castle, Southport and host Terre Haute North to come away with a tournament crown. Ty McCullars and Carson Baumann were perfect on the day at second and third singles for the Warriors (9-4), while the doubles teams (Chase Koester and Kai Koester at No. 1, Isaac Phegley and Gavin Stubbe at No. 2) each won both of their matches.

Trojans fall to No. 5 Royals

Center Grove took a tough 3-2 loss to fifth-ranked Hamilton Southeastern. The No. 8 Trojans (13-3) got their points from Loc Pham at second singles and the team of Daksh Patel and Evan Davis at second doubles.

Cross country

Creek boys win Eagle Classic

Indian Creek finished on top of the large-school division at Brown County’s Eagle Classic on Saturday, paced by a second-place showing individually from Luke Neibert (16:40). The Braves placed eighth in the Elite Division, which featured nine top-25 teams, paced by Libby Dowty (fourth in a school-record 18:18.9) and Abby Fleetwood (sixth in 18:28.4).

No. 7 Center Grove was fourth in the Elite Division boys race, with Ty Garrett leading the way in seventh individually (15:25.3).

Warrior boys take own invitational

Whiteland’s boys won the championship at their invitational meet, getting top-five individual efforts from Matthew Nino (second) and Nolan Edens (fourth). On the girls side, Victoria Jackson was the overall winner in a time of 19:31 and Isabella Fuentes was third, helping the Warriors come in third in the team standings.

Ari Smith was 14th in the boys large school race to help Franklin finish fourth. The Grizzly Cub girls were 16th in the Elite Division.

Royals compete in All-Catholic meet

Roncalli’s boys placed third at the All-Catholic meet, making their best showing in the event’s 13-year history. Sam Vaught led the Royals with a ninth-place showing. Roncalli finished fourth in the girls meet.

Football

Cougars throttle Covenant

Greenwood Christian rolled past the Covenant Christian junior varsity on Saturday, 43-0. Nathan Goins rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns, while Trey Dobson rushed for 88 and passed for 104. The Cougars, who are now 3-0 overall and 1-0 against varsity competition, do not have a game scheduled for this week.

Trojans swept by Braves

Center Grove came up short against Class 4A No. 7 Brebeuf on Saturday, losing by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-21.

Girls soccer

Center Grove suffers first loss

Sixth-ranked Center Grove fell from the ranks of the undefeated on Saturday with a 5-2 loss at No. 3 Castle. Madi Kramer and Emily Karr scored goals for the Trojans (7-1-1), while Molly Tapak had an assist.

Boys soccer

Grizzly Cubs manage draw

Franklin finished in a 1-1 tie with Class A No. 3 University on Saturday afternoon. Griffin Atkison scored the lone goal for the Grizzly Cubs, while Adam Ott and Riley Shaff combined for four saves.

Roncalli blanks Chatard

Isaac Gomez-Alejo scored once in each half to help Roncalli to a 2-0 victory over Bishop Chatard. The Royals improved to 5-4 with the win.

Franklin College

Volleyball tops Asbury in four

Led by eight kills from Kaitlyn Lavy, Franklin College evened up its record with a 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18 win at Asbury on Saturday. Billie Jarrett had 17 assists for the Grizzlies (3-3), while Campbell Clark had nine digs and three of the team’s nine aces.

Men’s soccer defeated by Cougars

Franklin College suffered a 6-1 loss at St. Francis. Eddy Yousak scored the lone goal for the Grizzlies (0-6).
