Dwight A. Pate

MORGANTOWN

Dwight A. Pate, age 93 passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, December 29, 2022 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus in West Lafayette. He was a resident of Morgantown.

Dwight was born December 14, 1929 in Bloomington, to the late Ira and Audrey (Morgan) Pate. He grew up in Morgantown and graduated from Morgantown High School in 1947. Dwight attended Franklin College and was a Korean War Veteran who joined the United States Air Force in 1951, serving as an Airman 2nd Class through October 1952. He later served with the Indiana Guard Reserve as a 1st Lieutenant with the Medical Corps.

Upon returning from the Air Force, Dwight worked as Training Specialist for the Air National Guard prior to starting his career with Indiana State Employment Service in Bloomington. Dwight received “In Service Training” at Indiana University, Purdue University and Brookings Institute, Washington, D.C. He served in positions from interviewer, placement officer, office manager, area supervisor in several locations in Indiana, starting in Bloomington, Gary, Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. Dwight retired from Fort Wayne in January 1990, as manager of the state’s largest office.

Dwight was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinsville. Dwight enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to church, watching sports, reading and visiting with friends.

Dwight was preceded in death on July 25, 2022 by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Lueallin Ruth (Smith) Pate, whom he married on October 16, 1954 in Bloomington. Dwight is also preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Audrey Pate.

He is survived by his children, Angela L. (Dave) Shondell of West Lafayette &Michael D. (Kathy) Pate of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Adam (Joy) Pate of Virginia Beach, VA, Amanda (Andrew) Tucker of Rochester, MN, Karli (Rob) Mullally of Noblesville, Lindsay (Tamir) Morgan of West Lafayette, Ashlee (Gary) Huff of Carmel and Kyle (LeeAnn) Shondell of Fort Wayne; twelve great grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Rev. John Parsley will conduct a funeral service on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Cremation &Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from noon until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with military rites presented by the United State Air Force and the Martinsville American Legion &VFW Honor Guards.
