Girls basketball

Grizzly Cubs surge past Warriors

Down by a point at halftime, Franklin dominated the third quarter en route to a 51-32 victory at Whiteland on Saturday afternoon. Brooklyn York scored 11 points and Scarlett Kimbrell nine for the Grizzly Cubs (14-5, 5-1 Mid-State); Erica Buening contributed nine points, while Kyndell Jochim, Lauren Klem and Emma Sappenfield each added six. For the Warriors (12-9, 5-1), Sophia Dyer scored nine points and Carly VonDielingen had seven.

Braves repeat as WIC champs

Faith Wiseman totaled 16 points and 10 rebounds as Class 3A No. 4 Indian Creek clinched the Western Indiana Conference title outright for the second straight year with a 69-30 home win over West Vigo. Lauren Foster and Ayla Lollar chipped in 12 points apiece for the Braves (21-1, 9-0), with Abby Fleetwood collecting five steals.

Center Grove rallies to beat Royals

Trailing by five with under two minutes to go, Class 4A No. 5 Center Grove scored the final six points to escape with a 50-49 home win over Roncalli on Saturday evening. Marcus Ankney scored 11 of his game-high 20 in the fourth quarter for the Trojans (15-1), who also got 10 points from Joey Schmitz, seven from Jalen Bundy and six from Ethan McComb. The Royals (5-9) got 15 points from Drew Kegerreis, 13 from Luke Kegerreis, 10 from Trevor Lauck and nine from Nolan Tunny.

Cougars rout Twisters

Blake Shewmaker scored 24 points to lead Greenwood Christian to a comfortable 60-23 home win over Oldenburg Academy. Max Booher and Jordan Taulman each added 11 points for the Cougars (7-6).

Trojans sweep Huskies

Center Grove took all six relays on the way to a dual-meet sweep at Hamilton Heights on Saturday, with the boys winning by a 130-50 score and the girls taking a 133-52 victory. Tenley Wilkins was first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke for the Trojan girls, who also got individual wins from Grace Clarkston (50 freestyle), Addyson Matern (500 freestyle) and Lara Phipps (100 breaststroke). The boys got first-place efforts from Dylan O’Brien (200 free), Elliot Hunter (200 IM), Aidan Lyness (50 free), Evan Hernandez (100 butterfly), Aleks Parsetich (100 free), Isaac Lewis (500 free), Sam Smith (100 back) and Caleb Heck (100 breast).

Men’s basketball wins fourth straight

A dominating defensive effort guided Franklin College to its fourth consecutive victory, a 67-40 home win over Defiance on Saturday. Trey Flatt scored 16 points and Ryan Bostic 13 for the Grizzlies (11-6, 7-3 HCAC), who held the Yellow Jackets to 27.9% shooting from the field.

Women’s basketball tops Defiance

Jordan Coon scored 19 points as Franklin College defeated visiting Defiance, 62-49. Jasmine Walker added 12 points and Georgia Hanauer 11 for the Grizzlies (7-10, 5-5 HCAC).
