Juanita (Red) Ponto

GREENWOOD

Juanita (Red) Ponto, 97, born in Versailles, KY peacefully went to be with our Lord the morning of April 25, 2023 at Greenwood Village South, where she resided since April 7th, 2022.

Juanita was a resident of Greenwood, IN since 1927 and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1943. She worked at Arvin Industries, where among other things, she painted bomb shells during WW II. Later she worked and retired from The National Bank of Greenwood (PNC) as a bookkeeper. She was a lifelong member of Greenwood Christian Church.

In 1945 she married Henry M. Ponto, a WW II veteran and POW survivor. Together they had two daughters, Beth A. Ponto-Williams and Linda L. Flock.

In 1968 she lost the love of her life to divorce, but shortly after, gained four stepchildren Jeff Taylor (Vena), Jay Taylor (Linda), Julie Hogan and Henry Bud Ponto II (Dionne).

Juanita loved Jesus and remained faithful to the end. She dearly loved “her ‘girls”, her grandson Mathew R. Ponto (Amy) great grandchildren Mya Leigh and Camren Ponto and grandson Trevor Ponto. Her love of traveling took her from New England to Florida, California to North Dakota and all points in between. She also loved her grand dogs, Sadie Lee, (deceased), Parker Lee, Willow Mae, and Hazel Grace

In these later years Juanita longed to be outside in her flower beds and caring for herself back at home in “her little house” she helped build. Mother-Momma, you are “home” now and although you are greatly missed, we rejoice in knowing you are made new in your forever home – heaven. You are living in our hearts until we meet again.
