UPDATE: Greenwood police investigating home invasion shooting

UPDATE TUESDAY 11:05 A.M.

Martin

When Greenwood police arrived at the home in the 1200 block of Odell Lane on Monday afternoon they found the body of Jerimiah Sirr Martin, 20 of Indianapolis, who was dead of apparent multiple gunshot wounds. A Greenwood woman and an Indianapolis juvenile were questioned in connection with the shooting, a press release from Greenwood police says.

During questioning, Greenwood woman said she had received a call from someone she knew only as “Black Boy” who wanted to purchase marijuana from her. “Black Boy” was later identified as Marcus Deon Jones, Jr., the release says.

The woman allegedly told Jones she wouldn’t sell him marijuana because he owed her money from an earlier transaction. Jones reportedly told her that he would pay her what he owed along with the marijuana he would purchase that day, so she agreed to sell to him, the release says.

Jones allegedly came to her residence to purchase the marijuana and was met by the juvenile, who asked for the agreed-upon amount of money. Jones reportedly told the juvenile he didn’t have enough money but he would be back, the release says.

Jones

Jones returned with Martin, who allegedly brandished a handgun and threatened the juvenile, demanding he show him where the drugs are. The three went to the master bedroom, the release says.

At one point Martin put down his handgun and allegedly picked up a rifle that was in the room. The juvenile then reportedly picked up the handgun and started shooting at Martin, causing a struggle to ensue, the release says.

The juvenile wrestled the rifle away from Martin and shot him with it multiple times. The gunshot wounds were fatal, the release says.

Jones fled the scene and was later stopped by police in Indianapolis. Greenwood police questioned him and arrested him on a preliminary charge of burglary as a level 2 felony, the release says.

Jones is being held on $30,000 bond.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Greenwood Police Department.

The identity of the alleged dealer is not being published because no drug charges have been filed at this time. Prosecutor Lance Hamner said the incident is still under investigation and he can’t comment on any other charges that may be filed at this time.

A deadly shooting at about 2:45 p.m. Monday was likely the result of a home invasion.

Greenwood Police received a call from the 1200 block of Odell Lane from someone who said they shot an intruder, Police Chief Jim Ison said.
Police will have to wait for a warrant from the Johnson County Prosecutor to interview the resident and investigate further. More details, including the identity of the person who was shot and if they knew the resident, will be released when possible, Ison said.
No other people were in the house at the time of the shooting, he said.
