Harold Hughes

89 of Greenwood, Indiana passed away on June 17th after a brief illness. Harold was born on November 1st, 1933, to Paul and Mamie (Thurston) Hughes in Daviess County, Indiana. After graduating from Alfordsville High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force, serving as a medic and spending time in Greenland, Germany, and England. During his service at Fort Bragg, NC he met Mary Briggs and were married in 1956. They then returned to Daviess County, where he began working as a farm hand where he developed skills that would follow him for years.

Not content with that life, he soon moved to Greenwood, Indiana to begin a more than 30 years career in law enforcement with the Greenwood Police Department. Harold and Mary would go on to have two children, Marty, and Julie. Harold was a devoted father and always taught others the joy of eating hotdogs and proper use of tools. He loved gardening, especially heirloom tomatoes, his dog Abby, horses and old tv westerns, but especially spending time with his family.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mamie Hughes, his brothers, Eddie, Richard, Mike and Gerald, his sister, Rosemary (Mouzin). He is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, Marty (Genny) and Julie (Anna), his grandchildren, Jonathan and Jeremy Hughes, and his brother Bill and sister Wilma Delaney and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A gathering will take place Tuesday, June 27th from 3:00pm-5:00pm at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service &Crematory, Greenwood Chapel 481 W. Main Street Greenwood, Indiana with a Celebration of Life beginning at 5:00pm.
