Barbara Davis Smith

PLANO, TX

Barbara Davis Smith, 95, of Plano, TX, passed away peacefully to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

She was born Barbara Pauline Davis, on October 7, 1928, in Mooresville, IN to Jesse Milton Davis and Grethel Mildred Davis. Barbara married Jack Smith on January 5, 1952, at Community Congregational Church in Franklin, IN. Jack preceded Barbara in death in January of 2010.

Barbara graduated from Franklin College and Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse for 45 years. Barbara worked in hospitals in Indianapolis, IN, Franklin, IN, Bradenton, FL, Boynton Beach, FL and Boca Raton, FL.

Following their marriage, Jack and Barbara rented their first house in Reds Corner, IN. Jack worked for the Asgrow Seed Company and in 1958; the company closed the station in Indiana and relocated to Florida. On January 1, 1959, Jack, Barbara and daughter Nancy left for Bradenton, FL. They purchased their first home in Bradenton and lived there until the company relocated again, this time across the state, to Delray Beach, FL. Jack and Barbara built a house in Delray Beach and moved in December of 1973. Barbara moved to Plano, TX, in June of 2010, following Jack’s passing.

Survivors include Barbara’s sister Marilyn Jean McDonald of Franklin, IN, daughter, Nancy Jean Mabrey (Joel) of Plano, TX, grandson, Clint A. Mabrey of Ft. Worth, TX, grandson, Daniel J.Mabrey (Cali), of Grainau, Germany, and great-grandchildren, Eliza M. Mabrey and Thomas E. Mabrey. Barbara also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Barbara participated in church services provided by Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, TX. The church played an important role in Barbara’s life from a very young age. Barbara loved Jesus and she was a “prayer warrior” for her family and friends.

Services will be conducted on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 11:30 A.M., at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street), Franklin, IN, with the Reverend Shan Rutherford, presiding. The service will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the mortuary. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 1977 S. State Rd 135, Greenwood, IN 46143
