GREENWOOD
Hubert W. (Herb) Sauter, age 83, passed away April 23, 2024 at home with his family. Herb was a loving husband, father, grandfather &friend to many. He was a long time Greenwood (Center Grove) resident. Herb was born December 7, 1940 in Indianapolis to the late Hubert &Mildred (Coshow) Sauter. He married Mardena (Coram) Sauter on May 19, 1962. Herb is survived by his wife Mardena, three children Rick (Ruth/Janet Papproth) Sauter, Jeff (Sharon) Sauter and Tracy Poole; five grandchildren Reed (Arlene Clark) Sauter, Drew Sauter, Ryan Sauter, Matthew Sauter and Cameron Poole and a great granddaughter Gabriela Sauter. Siblings David (Vera) Sauter, a sister Carmen Pahud (deceased) and many nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Manual High School in Indianapolis, Class of 1958 and a college graduate of Indiana University in 1965. He was employed by Burroughs Corp (Unisys) and Stryker Corporation, he retired in 1998. Herb was an avid golfer and a member of Hickory Stick Golf Club. Herb organized many golf trips and daily golf games for his many golf friends. He was active for many years as a coach in various youth athletic programs at the Baxter YMCA and Center Grove athletic leagues. Herb was a coach on the Center Grove baseball little league team that won the Indiana State Tournament in 1980 as well as Center Grove AAU-JR Olympics basketball teams that won tournaments in 1978 &1983. The 1983 team finished third in the nation. He loved to attend his grandchildren’s various athletic events and was an enthusiastic supporter of their teams and all of the Center Grove athletics and choirs.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1605 S State Rd 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143. A private burial service to follow visitation where he will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana.
