‘He is trying to kill me’: Man arrested on charges of attacking woman, officers

<p>Police arrested a Franklin man after he entered a home without permission, tried to shatter a flower pot over a woman’s head, sat on her chest and kicked and spit on officers.</p><p>Robert Wood, 25, 3090 N. Morton St., was arrested on charges of battery on a public safety official, domestic battery, resisting law enforcement, criminal trespass and strangulation.</p><p>About 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, as police approached the mobile home where the incident occurred, they could hear a woman yelling for help inside, according to a Franklin police report.</p><p>Officers entered the home and ordered Wood to the ground, but he ignored their commands, the report said.</p><p>A large clay flower pot was shattered on the ground next to the woman, who was laying on the kitchen floor, begging for help and saying, &quot;He is trying to kill me.&quot; Wood was standing about five feet away, police said.</p><p>Officers forced Wood to the ground and into handcuffs, but he kicked one officer in the chest several times, spit on them and yelled at them, the report said.</p><p>Backup officers arrived and applied a spit mask, according to the report.</p><p>The woman told police Wood banged on her front door, yelling, but she could not understand him. Police said he appeared to be intoxicated. He opened the front door and entered the home, she said. She tried to call a relative, but Wood took her phone. That relative called 911, the report said.</p><p>She said Wood forced her to the ground in the kitchen, lifted the flower pot over his head and attempted to shatter it over hers, but she blocked the blow with her elbow.</p><p>Wood then shoved her head into the ground and sat on her chest, the report said. She told police when he did that, she couldn’t breathe and felt like she was going to die.</p><p>He is being held at the Johnson County jail without bond.</p>
