Letter: Flea market closing a loss to county

To the editor:

This year would have been the Bargerville Flea Market’s 50th anniversary. However, it appears that will not happen. The Bargersville Flea Market has announced that they will close.

Why? Over the years, Bargersville town officials have made various demands upon the owners of the flea market and they have complied. It is my understanding the latest demand was the last straw for the owners of the Bargersville Flea Market. The town officials demanded that vendors setting up at the flea market pay a $25 daily; $100 per week; $250 for six months; $300 for a year permit fee.

It seems the Bargersville town officials considered the flea market a nuisance and/or they were not making enough money from it. Forget how the flea market put Bargersville on the map. Forget how many businesses will suffer from the closing of the flea market.

Many generations have enjoyed and benefited from this establishment. A unique destination location to be lost to possible greed or affluence of a few officials.
