FRANKLIN
Mary Charlene Hawkins Age: 89, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
She was born on June 12, 1933 in Franklin, Indiana to Charles Francis “Frank” Boyd and Gladys (Harter) Boyd. Charlene married Philip Leohn Hawkins on May 20, 1952. She is survived by daughters Deanna Jacquay and Dawn McDonald (Gary), son John Hawkins (Lori); grandchildren: Chris Hawkins (Riley), Amy King (Matt), Jackson Hawkins, Angie Greene (Matt), Erin Wheeldon; great grandchildren: Madelyn and Kinzie King, Olivia and Emi Hawkins, Hannah O’Connor and great, great grandchild: Ziggy Latimer. Also surviving is brother, Hugh Boyd (Patricia Barnes) and best friend, Mary Helen Server. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband Philip L. Hawkins, son David L. Hawkins (Connie), brother Johnny Mack Boyd, sister-in-law Phyllis (Goodman) Boyd.
Charlene attended Franklin Community High School and the New York School of Interior Design.
She was an Interior Designer. After having four children, Charlene began a home study course with New York School of Interior Design. She was a unique and creative designer and had several of her clients up until just a few years ago. She was a great cook excelling in wild game, hosting many holidays, social dinners and beast feasts. She was also an artist who could create traditional paintings up to the most odd and unusual of subjects. Charlene and Phil hosted many children’s classroom field trips, showing his array of animal mounts, many antique items and some of the old ways of life. They were also hosts of exchange students from Dominican Republic, Sweden and Australia, who still visit and keep in touch today.
There will be no services per request and graveside rites will be private. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements.
