Don and Lynne Sickels

WHITELAND

Donald “Don” W. Sickels Jr., 65, and loving wife, Melissa L. “Lynne” McCrary Sickels, 57, of Whiteland, went home to be with Jesus less than 24 hours apart at Community South Hospital in Greenwood.

Don was born on January 17, 1956 in Colorado, a son of the late, Donald W. and Ruth Sickels Sr. Don is survived by three children, Carrie Sickels-Hines (Karey Crane), Elizabeth Sickels and Victoria Sickels; three grandchildren, Alexis Young (fiancé, Nick Adams), Jacob Young, Haleigh Hines and two great-grandchildren; six siblings, Anita (Roger) Ward, Deborah (Gerald) Bedwell, Janet (Greg) Buckley, John (Ginger) Sickels, Christopher Scott (Jane) Sickels, Kimberly Sickels and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lynne was born on October 20, 1964 in Clinton, IN, a daughter of Rev. Maurice R. and Pansy R. (Kirkman) McCrary Sr. Lynne is survived by her parents; two brothers, Rev. Ray (Lenea) McCrary II and Tony (Abby) McCrary; eight nieces and nephews, Rachelle (Thom) Fish, Amber (Mark) Fish, Natosha McCrary, Megan (Matt) Harshbarger, Alex McCrary, Caitlyn (Daniel) Spriggs, Britton (Kelsey) McCrary and Marissa McCrary; one great- niece, six great-nephews and numerous cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by a nephew, Maurice R. McCrary III.

Don and Lynne were brought together and it was love at first sight. They were inseparable and kids at heart. They were married on August 27, 2011. The Sickels family and McCrary family fully embraced each other and enjoyed holidays and trips together. Don and Lynne loved travelling and vacationing in Brown County, Indiana, Cumberland Lake and Dale Hollow Lake among many other places. Don was a horticulturist and enjoyed growing and grooming plants. He owned and operated Certified Lawn Care for many years and later worked for Mid America Labs as a courier. After retiring he volunteered as a bus driver for Kid City USA in Beech Grove. Don enjoyed cooking and baking. He was great with children and they naturally gravitated towards his gentle spirit and candy filled pockets. He was loving, kind, funny sense of humor and had a heart for everyone. From the age of 10 until the day Lynne passed away, she ministered side by side her family. She served with them in song evangelistic work, children and youth ministries, and various church positions. Lynne was a teacher and principal in four different Christian schools. She was the current director of Kids City USA in Beech Grove.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Indy Southside Nazarene Church 2515 E Thompson Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227 with Pastor Keith Waggoner and Pastor Ray McCrary officiating.
