The Edinburgh baseball team didn’t let last season’s loss in the first round of the state tournament affect it on Thursday night. The Lancers defeated county rival Greenwood Christian, 3-0, in the opening round of the Class A Morristown Sectional.
The Lancers (6-13) will play Indianapolis Lutheran in a semifinal game on Saturday morning.
Senior Coltan Henderson kept the Cougars scoreless while striking out six and allowing four hits on the way to the victory.
The Lancers (6-13) got some hits in the early going but couldn’t score until the bottom of the third inning, when senior Ethan Armel singled home classmate Bryce Burton.
Burton knocked in two runs of his own in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Henderson some insurance.
Senior pitcher Griffin Huizinga struck out five and allowed four hits for the Cougars (8-11). On the offensive side, he went 1 for 2 while stealing a base.
