Crappie fishing is a signal spring is upon us. When “slabs,” as big crappie are called, are found close to shore, you should also expect turkeys to be gobbling and morel mushrooms to be popping. I’ve often said that if I were in charge, we’d have 10 Octobers and two Aprils. In my book, we’re entering the second best outdoors month of the year.

Softball

As a 5-year-old, Russell Steven Hughes was taught the game of chess by his paternal grandfather Taid, a professional boxer who came to the United States from his home country of Wales.

Freshman Sage Parsetich picked up medalist honors while leading the Indiana Wesleyan women’s golf team to the title at the Purgatory Intercollegiate Invite. The former Center Grove player shot scores of 76 and 72.

Brevin Holubar’s competitive nature will be on display one lap at a time this spring.

Tim Abel was an All-County guard as an Indian Creek senior seven years ago, and he went on to play college basketball at Cincinnati Christian and Huntington. He’s still got game — so the two inches or so that he gives up to Faith Wiseman don’t necessarily matter all that much when the two go at it on the court.
